Having a smoke alarm is not the same as knowing it works

Six short questions. You get the explanation straight away, and what you don't know becomes something you can actually do.

Test yourself. See if you get all six right.

Question 1 of 6

How often should you test your smoke alarm?

DSB and Brannvernforeningen (the Norwegian Fire Protection Association) recommend a monthly test with the test button, and always after you have been away for a long time.

The alarm beeps when you press the test button, but it is 12 years old. What should you do?

What is the minimum requirement in the regulations?

The alarm gives short beeps at regular intervals. What does that mean?

Short beeps mean the battery is running low. Change it, and press the test button afterwards.

Where on the ceiling should the smoke alarm go?

DSB advises placing it at the highest point of the ceiling and at least half a metre from the wall.

You rent your home. Who should test the smoke alarm and change the battery?
